{"id":24,"date":"2006-09-15T07:44:10","date_gmt":"2006-09-15T11:44:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dennisdanvers.com\/?p=24"},"modified":"2006-09-16T10:39:39","modified_gmt":"2006-09-16T14:39:39","slug":"the-poet-takes-all-morning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/dennisdanvers.com\/?p=24","title":{"rendered":"The Poet Takes All Morning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE POET TAKES ALL MORNING<\/p>\n<p>The poet takes all morning to wake up sometimes\u00e2\u20ac\u201d<br \/>\nSometimes days\u00e2\u20ac\u201dsometimes weeks.<br \/>\nThe poet eats too fast and asks for seconds.<br \/>\nThe poet doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t know what he\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s on about<br \/>\nBut he knows there\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a word for it.<\/p>\n<p>The poet doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t care<br \/>\nIf I make any money,<br \/>\nIf I eat things that  are bad for me.<br \/>\nThe poet believes that anything<br \/>\nWorth doing badly is worth describing well.<br \/>\nThe poet wishes we would move to Italy,<br \/>\nThat Death was Beauty, and Beauty, Truth.<\/p>\n<p>The poet wants to throw a party<br \/>\nAnd invite his dreams,<br \/>\nThen go home with someone else.<br \/>\nThe poet believes in Blakes\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s God and Milton\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Satan<br \/>\nBut can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t sit still for the pew religion\u00e2\u20ac\u201d<br \/>\nHe doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t understand why the hymns have to be so bad,<br \/>\nWhy the sermon is never interesting,<br \/>\nWhy no one weeps at communion.<br \/>\nThe poet falls in love with every woman he meets<br \/>\nAnd loses them because he falls in love with every woman he meets.<br \/>\nThe poet lies awake all night<br \/>\nWatching the dying animal sleep.<\/p>\n<p>I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m a novelist, I complain to him\u00e2\u20ac\u201d<br \/>\nI don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t have time for these endless moments.<br \/>\nThe poet says I need a break from the words marching all the way to the right margin and back again trying to make something happen, never just letting time stop to be here now.<br \/>\nMaybe, I say.<\/p>\n<p>The poet takes all morning to wake up sometimes.<br \/>\nSometimes he wakes up right away.<br \/>\nThe poet laments there are more hours in the day<br \/>\nThan there are things to do them.<br \/>\nThe poet rides in the backseat asking,<br \/>\nAre we there yet?
